TEFL Taster Course:

Would you like the chance to explore the creative world of English language teaching and the opportunity to see if you could utilise your unique flare and personality in the classroom environment?

If so, we are offering you the option to try TEFL before you commit with a weekend  Taster Course in Barnstaple, Devon, designed to give you a real taste of the ELT world and the knowledge and skills required to become an effective ELT practitioner. We offer a variety of input sessions including language development, teaching planning and practice and a plethora of ways to be creative within the teaching environment.

Course Entry Requirements: A Level English or equivalent

A beginners’ lesson: find out what it's like to be on the receiving end

10.45-11.30Vocabulary and eliciting language:
What do students already know/Inventive ways to elicit from the students, using pictures, mime and gesture.
11.30 – 12.30Introduction to grammar:
A first look at some of the English tenses. What is the Present Perfect exactly?

How games can improve the learning experience.
13.45 - 14.45Lunch
14.45 – 15.30Pronunciation:
The sounds, stress, intonation & rhythm of the English language.
15.30-16.30Functions:
Teaching everyday English words and phrases. Language in context.

16.45- 5.30Controlled Practice:
Practice activities/ why we use them and some ideas for the classroom.
17.30 - 18.30Free Practice:
Using role play and other activities to bring your lessons to life.
18.30 – 19.15Teaching Skills:
How to teach reading & listening in the classroom.

Assessing new students and understanding different levels of students.
