England & Devon
SOL has its three centres in Devon. Two are in the neighbouring towns of Barnstaple and Bideford in North Devon and just a few kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean with its stunning cliffs, rolling surf and glorious beaches. Our third centre is in Tiverton in mid Devon.
All are about 300 km west of London. The journey only takes four hours by coach.
In the 16th and 17th centuries these two towns were two of our most important ports and tens of thousands of emigrants left from here for the Americas
Barnstaple is a town with 25,000 people that has so much to offer it is always a challenge to know where to start. Whether it’s shopping, leisure and culture or immersing yourself in the town’s rich history, there really is something for everyone. Barnstaple is a truly friendly and welcoming town.
Bideford is a safe and friendly market town of about 12,000 inhabitants, and is still a working port although on a much smaller scale. Many visitors enjoy strolling around the town exploring the narrow streets with brightly coloured shops selling everything from local fudge, arts & crafts, fresh local produce and general goods to the latest fashions. The nearest beach, Westward Ho! is only 3 km away.
Tiverton is the largest town in Mid Devon with a population of approximately 20,000. Tiverton has two beautiful rivers, the Exe and the Lowman, which join just south of the Town Centre. The town also boasts a canal, were visitors can experience trips in boats travelling through idyllic scenery. Its history has been very much associated with the wool trade but despite the worldwide changes it has largest factory still works but now is associated more with specialist fabrics.
